Workshop Review Series: Employability - The Other Side of the Employment Market

Emplayability

State Street is a US-based international finance services holding company founded in 1792. It´s the second oldest financial institution in the USA and got a resident in Munich since 1972. What is global inclusion? State Street built up an inclusive environment. For corporate citizenship they hand out 5000 bucks to each of the 29k employees, so that they can delegate it to a charity of their choice.

Social Sense was found in 2006. They support women to come back on track. Their work is internal of the ethnic and national affiliation of those involved. Their concept includes a catering company for about 600 persons a day and the second hand shop Kinderkram, which got things for kids from the age from zero till six. The clients are the same like in a women´s refuge, so women with hard problems like drug addiction, psychic problems and victims of violence. Those women need protected surroundings, where they can fall and learn.

The program lasts for three years and has place for 35 persons. Some women start with an internship, where they work about two hours a day, then the time in work increases. Many companies have problems to find adequate employees, so it´s a win win situation getting them together. Mentors support the women with their first hand know how on their way, with the aim of a successful integration. Companies can benefit from a fortunate introduction. There are many requests from both sides. On the one hand, women who need help, on the other side the companies who want to do something sinful. It´s a good feeling to do some good.

A partnership between a financial institution and a non-profit organization seems quite unusual. The key idea is to combine education, employability and long term integration with each other. The aim is to support communities, engage the employees and to share their expertise. Catering Gaumenfreude and second hand shop Kinderkram are getting their support. Make something useful as a woman for women to give something back to our society.

Sozialdienst katholischer Frauen e.V. exists now since over 100 years. It got 150 facilities in Germany and 280 employees in Munich. The main expertise is a mother-child interaction. In business social competence is often missing, so how can we increase it? Women with problems need us to help them. Everybody has a social competence and a plan to make it done. Women can change the world to a better place.
